Ask HN: Everyone was Jev-maxxing. Why not CDMs now?
3 points by rearview •
Just a few weeks ago, all that my feed had was people JEV-maxxing. Everywhere, on every platform, every other post, just JEV.

Then we got these CDMs from ScaleDown, which not only classify like jev but also do compression and summarization, as well as extraction, with no token output cost, at a similar price point.

Then what gives? Am I missing something, or does TypeSafe had the upper hand when it comes to hyping its product?

You are close to deducing that you are inside of a bubble.

Ha, good point! But even outside my feed, I haven’t seen much mention of it on anyplace, even from people who are all about catching up on the latest trend. Maybe it’s just outside everybody’s bubble right now.

Viral trends aren’t logical processes where you can say “if Stanley cups were trendy 6 months ago, why not self-heating coffee mugs now”.

It’s a combination of good marketing, open space in the relevant discussion areas, and waves hands zeitgeist.

That’s right, it’s most likely marketing. The use case is clear enough, but apparently, usefulness alone is not sufficient for people to talk about it.
