Old.reddit.com Gone
35 points by Balgair •
It may just be me, but old.reddit.com is finally gone. And, at last, I am free
slater •
Get the old reddit addon, still works for me (firefox)
pndy •
For me the extension has stopped working around 2 hours ago and page loads new interface
silon42 •
Yup... stopped working, so I can't browser reddit anymore anywhere where I'm not logged in (work, phone, tablet).

it doesnt work anymore while logged out, since this morning. reddit is forcing people to log in to use it now. they want to datamine people more, since the fiasco 2 months ago where they were forcing that login popup.

It looks like old.reddit.com still works but requires logging in. Not having to log in was a huge feature for old.reddit.com. Sucks to see it go, but it was inevitable.
daemonologist •
You have to be logged in and, if I understand correctly, if you don't log in to old.reddit for six months (retroactive) they take it away.
jaredsohn •
My understanding (just from chatting with Gemini) is you just need to visit reddit (logged in) within the past 6 mos and don't have to log out/in again or anything like that.

So basically, I probably have a bunch of accounts from years ago; suspect that all but my current one no longer work with old reddit.

Biggest annoyance for me would be on mobile where i wouldn't log in.

jaredsohn •
Well - today it started defaulting to new reddit. Somehow this was checked:

>Use new Reddit as my default experience (by enabling this, you will be redirected to the new site when you go to any supported https://reddit.com page)

Undid that and it fixed it for me.

8note •
it looks like a lot of the functionality of old reddit for seeing not-ad-decided sort orders is going away, so the whole old reddit will probably be gone by the end of the year
krazingans12346 •
they eventually want to get rid of old reddit while logged in, and force users to use the new ugly UI that is basically like facebook.

safereddit.com also broken

eddrit.com also broken

but r.naa.gg still works! (not for long though, probably, since Reddit admins read HN)

hwj •
Thx a lot! I've setup a Violentmonkey script to automatically redirect me to r.naa.gg:

    // ==UserScript==
    // @name        reddit
    // @match       *://www.reddit.com/*
    // ==/UserScript==

    window.location.host='r.naa.gg';

it was working when at night, and stopped working for all browser forks as well this morning. currently using redlib on a desktop, so i dont have to use the ugly UI. they already started restricted it when they made the comments mysteriously load forever. and now its only available if you are logged in.

i have to use sinkit extension to remove the ugly sidebar feed on new reddit.

cableshaft •
Still working for me. You might have to be logged in, though.

Stop using websites that don't respect their users
johnnyanmac •
If everyone listened, it'd already be a solved problem. But Reddit has the nasty side effect of drying up most other forum driven communities, and Discord did the coup de grâce on the rest.
enjoyyourlife •
Try using https://github.com/mkornreich/old_reddit to make it look like old Reddit
DerfJagged •
Happened to me too. Going to Settings -> Preferences, turning on "Use new Reddit as my default experience", and then turning it back off fixed it.
isolay •
You can’t thoroughly enshittify when users still have recourse. That hole has been plugged now. It was only a question of time.
jackgolding •
Just a matter of time unfortunately

May I introduce [tildes.net](https://tildes.net)

Invite only, text based, smaller community, engaging discussions.

And I guess hacker news and lobsters. Others can add more.

(There was hesitation in adding this, you don’t want more communities to become like reddit, but what the heck, at this point lot of us are better educated about the different group of people online on social media, so we know what to look for and who to stop.)

ciroduran •
I sent an email in May asking for an account and the email must have gone into oblivion, because I never heard back from them
pndy •
Didn't the creator of tildes announced recently that site goes into maintenance mode and no new features will be added?
ciroduran •
I accidentally clicked "Get new reddit" on the top left corner today and I have not been able to get back to old reddit, even if I set that I prefer the old reddit.
